Yinson GreenTech, a company focused on energy infrastructure and generation, has teamed up with Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) to unveil a new electric vessel charging station at WSS's facility located in Pandan Loop, Singapore. This marks their first collaborative effort in developing such infrastructure, with ambitions to establish additional stations in the future.
The newly launched charging station boasts six IP67-rated CCS2-compatible power outlets, capable of accommodating various types of electric harbor vessels and other energy needs. Incorporating cutting-edge technologies like dynamic load balancing and adaptive load control, this station ensures efficient power distribution and allows for easy expansion as more vessels transition to electric power.
The launch event attracted industry leaders and experts, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a panel discussion focused on electrifying port operations and reducing Scope 3 emissions—those indirect emissions within the supply chain. Representatives from Yinson GreenTech, Wilhelmsen Ships Service, and SP Mobility participated in the conversation.
Kjell Andre Engen, President of Wilhelmsen Ships Service, emphasized the potential for electric harbor vessels to drastically reduce emissions and improve air quality within ports. This initiative supports Wilhelmsen's goal of shrinking its carbon footprint while assisting customers in managing emissions throughout their supply chains.
Jan Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of marinEV, the marine electrification division of Yinson GreenTech, highlighted the necessity of reliable charging infrastructure. He noted that a robust network of charging stations is essential for boosting the use of electric harbor vessels. Yinson's own electric cargo ship, Hydromover 20, and the electric passenger hydrofoil, Hydroglyder, exemplify this shift toward greener shipping.
With effective charging solutions like this new station, these initiatives are paving the way for more sustainable and efficient port operations.
