PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard Launches Indonesia s First All-Electric CBG 500 E Crane

Sejahtera PT BAS, a sister company that specializes in bulk cargo logistics. This partnership signifies a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence between both companies.

The CBG 500 E boasts an impressive reach of 43 meters and a load capacity of 65 tonnes SWL during clutch operation, making it a powerful tool for handling coal and significantly enhancing PT BAS's operational capacity. Set to arrive in October 2025, this all-electric crane is expected to improve shipping efficiency for PT Bahtera Alam Sejahtera once it is installed on its purpose-built barge.

PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard PT BBS has made a bold move in enhancing Indonesia's maritime capabilities by acquiring the Liebherr CBG 500 E. This crane, which is currently under construction at their facility in Batam, features a rope luffing mechanism and a safe working load of 65 tonnes, along with a 43-meter outreach, tailored for high-volume coal handling.

Its electric power system, complemented by the Licatronic power recovery system and supercapacitors, ensures lower emissions and optimized energy use. Additionally, the crane incorporates Liebherr's Master V control system, which provides advanced diagnostics and is ready for future automation upgrades.

The agreement was finalized at the Bauma 2025 event in Munich, Germany, symbolizing a major milestone in the transshipment sector, particularly in Indonesia.

Leading the way in innovation, PT BBS's investment in the CBG 500 E is a forward-thinking decision aimed at meeting the operational needs of PT BAS, which will deploy the crane for its coal transshipment tasks. Based in Kota Tanjung Pinang, PT BAS has a long-standing relationship with Liebherr and currently operates several CBG 350 and CBG 360 cranes. The new unit is set to significantly enhance its handling capacity while also aligning with wider environmental goals.

According to Selamet Widodo, President of PT BAS and PT BBS, 'The CBG 500 E is a remarkable addition to our fleet, greatly boosting our handling capabilities in the bulk sector. We are confident that its advanced drive system and performance metrics will cater to our operational needs and set new standards for efficiency.'

Founded in 2005 in Batam, Indonesia, PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard PT BBS is well-known for its shipbuilding solutions, which include barges, tugboats, and landing crafts. The shipyard spans over 52 hectares and is equipped with modern production facilities and a skilled engineering team.

The CBG 500 E will be mounted on a crane barge constructed at PT BBS, enhancing PT BAS's operational capabilities. The crane's advanced features, such as its high handling capacities and speed, will fulfill their need for improved efficiency and capacity in bulk handling operations.

Jonathan Weu, Sales Manager for Ship Cranes Port and Transshipment Solutions at Liebherr, stated, 'Our partnership with both companies exemplifies our mutual commitment to excellence and innovation within the maritime industry.' The delivery and subsequent operation of the crane will send a positive message to the market, showcasing the efficiency and reliability of Liebherr's transshipment solutions.

As the CBG 500 E prepares to make its journey to Indonesia, this project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and strategic vision. With PT BBS leading the investment and PT BAS driving operations, this initiative sets a new standard for environmentally conscious transshipment in the region.
