Canada may be a young country - it was only founded in 1867 - but its best country hotels exude old-world charm. This year's first-place winner, Auberge Saint-Antoine, is spread over several colonial-era warehouses in Old Port Quebec, as well as a unique restaurant that focuses on regional flavors. It's not far from the 71-ninth hotel, where its elegant rooms contrast with the Quebec stone of the last century in the background. The star attraction here, however, has always been the revivalist Fairmont Le Château Frontenac (10th place), built in the late 1800s to imitate the houses of the Loire Valley. South of Montreal, Hotel Place d'Armes (#2), Hotel Nelligan (#4), Auberge du Vieux-Port (#8) and Hotel William Gray (#5) are all located in the historic Old Port of the country and proud. The rooftop space of the view extends to the most timeless part of all: the St. Lawrence is beautiful.
